DSU Sweeps Two Matches on Day One of Worthington Classic

Washington, DC (October 9, 2015) – The DeSales University volleyball team had an impressive start to the Worthington Classic at Gallaudet University on Friday evening sweeping both Messiah College and RIT on the first day of the two day tournament.
 
Match #1 (vs. Messiah W/3-0 – 27-25, 25-23, 25-22)
The Bulldogs (14-8) handed Messiah (16-2) its first loss of the season on Friday afternoon fighting off one set point in the first set to win 27-25, scoring four straight points late in the second set to win 25-23, and erasing an 18-11 deficit in set three scoring nine straight points late to win 25-22.
 
Freshman Gabby Savite` led the attack with a team-high 16 kills and a team-high 15 digs.  Sophomore Logan Wieziolowski finished with 10 kills and two blocks and senior Kait Anderson added nine kills and hit .381 for the match.
 
Junior Lisa Wallitsch dished out 37 assists and had two service aces, while sophomore Bernadette Wood totaled 10 digs.
 
Match #2 (vs. Rochester Inst. of Technology W/3-0 – 25-13, 25-18, 25-19)
The Bulldogs hit .243 for the match cruising past RIT to improve to 2-0 on the day.  Savite` again led the attack with 11 kills and added 11 digs.  Junior Jess Swanson finished with nine kills and Wieziolowski added seven kills and three blocks.
 
Wallitsch also continued her terrific play at setter with 30 assists and three blocks.  Freshman Natalie Gray led the defense in the second match with 19 digs.
 
The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow taking on Catholic University at 10:00 am and another opponent to be announced that afternoon.
