Third Quarter Run Lifts Scranton over DeSales, 67-50

Center Valley, PA (November 15, 2015) – The University of Scranton used a 22-6 run over the final 6:34 of the third quarter en route to a 67-50 win over the DeSales University women's basketball team in the championship game of the Morgan Stanley (Easton office) Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday afternoon in Billera Hall.
 
After a defensive battle in the first-half that saw the score tied at 24 at the break the two teams traded baskets to open the second-half and after a three from freshman Leandra Sterner bounced in at 6:51 of the third quarter, Scranton (2-0) took control scoring the next nine points and finishing the half on a 22-6 run to take a 52-37 lead after three quarters.
 
DeSales (1-1) scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to pull within 11 points but couldn't get any closer in the loss.
 
After shooting just 28.1 percent from the field in the opening half, the Lady Royals hit 61.5 percent in the second-half including a 4-for-5 effort from three-point land.
 
Sterner and junior Morgan McCollian were each named to the All-Tournament Team for DeSales.  McCollian tallied her first double-double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds and added six blocks on Sunday, while Sterner finished with 13 points.  Freshman Morgan Birmelin played well in the loss finishing with 11 points, four assists, and five steals.
 
Scranton's Noelle Alicea was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player scoring 22 points in the win on Sunday and Alexix Roman was also named to the All-Tournament Team totaling 16 points and seven rebounds in the win over the Bulldogs.  Bridgette Mann added 22 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Royals.
 
The Bulldogs are off all week and return to action on Saturday, November 21st when they travel to Gwynedd-Mercy University for a non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
