Kelly Leads Bulldogs past Gwynedd-Mercy, 81-58

Gwynedd-Valley, PA (November 21, 2015) – Sophomore Kaitlin Kelly poured in a career-high 19 points leading the DeSales University women's basketball team past Gwynedd-Mercy University, 81-58, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
 
Kelly hit five three-pointers and added four assists in the win.  Junior Morgan McCollian added 22 points and rebounds and senior Jen Napolitano had 11 points off the bench.
 
GMU (3-1) was led by Charlotte Kucowski with 16 points and 11 rebounds, Olivia Bradford totaled 12 points, and Bianca Adams totaled 11 points in the loss.
 
The Griffins led 6-4 early when DeSales took control going on a 19-7 run to take a 25-14 lead late in the first quarter.  Kelly hit three 3's and freshman Katie Miller and Napolitano also added triples during the spurt.
 
The lead grew to as many as 19 points (40-21) in the second quarter before Gwynedd closed the half with four straight points to trail by 15 at the break.
 
The Bulldogs led by 14 at 5:43 of the third quarter when they took control for good using a 19-5 run over the final 5:43 of the quarter to open up their largest lead of the game (65-37).  Kelly finished the run with five straight points and Napolitano had six points during the spurt.
 
DSU took excellent care of the ball committing just 12 turnovers as compared to handing out 19 assists.  The Bulldog bench also played well accounting for 39 of the 81 points and DeSales took advantage of 24 Griffin turnovers scoring 30 points off those miscues.
 
Junior Nikki Callahan had a strong game with seven points and six assists, Miller finished with eight points and a team-high three steals, and junior Nicole Umbenhauer had another strong game off the bench with seven points and four boards.
 
The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday when they host local rival Moravian College in another non-conference game beginning at 6:00 pm.
