Women's Soccer Opens MAC Freedom Tournament Today vs. King’s

Center Valley, PA, (November 3, 2015) – The second seeded DeSales University women's soccer team opens the MAC Freedom postseason tournament today hosting third seeded King's College in the semifinal round at 2:00 pm.
 
The Bulldogs will enter the game with a 12-5 overall record after a 6-1 mark in the MAC Freedom earning the second seed.  King's enters the game with an 8-6-2 mark and a 3-2-2 record in the MAC Freedom earning the third seed.
 
There will be admission for the event with ticket prices set at $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for senior citizens, and $2.00 for students.  All DeSales students with a valid school ID will be admitted for FREE.  All children under the age of six will also be admitted for free.

DeSales/King's All-Time Series:
DeSales owns a 17-3 advantage in the all-time series between the two teams.  The Bulldogs have won three straight in the series including a 1-0 win in last year's MAC Freedom Tournament semifinals.  DSU is 10-0 all-time vs. the Monarchs at home.
 
Regular Season Meeting:
The Bulldogs out-shot King's, 11-3, recording a 4-0 win in the first MAC Freedom game of the season for both teams back on October 3rd.  Junior Rachel Shive led the way for the Bulldogs scoring three times, while junior Jess Wetherhold also scored.
 
DeSales in the MAC Freedom postseason:
This is DeSales' fifth appearance in the conference postseason.  The Bulldogs are 1-4 all-time in the MAC Freedom tournament earning their first win last season in the semifinals over King's.  This is the first time DSU has made consecutive appearances in the conference postseason in its history.
 
About the Bulldogs:
  • Shive leads the Bulldogs in scoring totaling 16 goals and three assists for 35 points.  She is two goals shy of tying the single season record for goals (18) and four points shy of tying the single-season record for points (39).  Shive has scored three or more goals in a game four times this season.
  • Sophomore Angelica Bertola is second on the team in scoring with 11 goals and five assists for 27 points.  She is one of just three players to play and start in all 17 games this season.  She has registered a hat trick twice this season and leads the team with five game-winning goals.
  • Wetherhold is third on the team in scoring with five goals and a MAC Freedom high seven assists for 17 points.  For the second straight season she is just one assist shy of tying the single-season record of eight.
  • Sophomore Danni Engwall (3g, 5a – 11 points) and freshman Sydney Gandy (4g, 2a – 10 points) round out the scoring leaders.
  • The Bulldogs defense has allowed just 16 goals in 17 games this season and is led by its four starting defenders, junior Esther Younger, sophomore Rachel Logue, and freshmen Caroline Nealon and Erin Crystal.
  • Junior Emily Hoats has been DSU's top goaltender during the second-half of the season sporting a 0.92 goals against average and a .778 save percentage, recording five shutouts on the year.
 
About the Monarchs:
  • King's is riding a three-game winning streak helping the Monarchs clinch the third seed in the postseason tournament including wins over Eastern and Delaware Valley in MAC Freedom play.
  • Erin Laird leads the team in scoring with six goals and one assist for 13 points.
  • Ivy Nulton is second in scoring with four goals and three assists for 11 points.
  • Jessica Natale is KC's top goaltender sporting a 1.21 GAA with a .776 save percentage and four shutouts on the year.
