Men’s Hoops Dismantles PSU-Berks, 112-73

Reading, PA (December 9, 2015) – Twelve different players scored and the DeSales University men's basketball team scored the most points in a game since November of 2006 routing PSU-Berks, 112-73, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.
 
Senior Cody Deal led the way scoring a game-high 23 points and junior Brian Laird added 17 points, all coming in the first-half, in his first start of the season.
 
Junior Ryan Callahan added 13 points and seven rebounds, junior Kuity Slanger totaled 12 points and sophomore Shaundell Fishburne reached double digits for the first time in his career with 11 points off the pine.
 
The Nittany Lions (1-6) were led by Baba Waples with 22 points, while Dameon Nixon and Montrell Gilliam each added 10 points in the loss.
 
DSU (5-3) blew the game open early extending an 11-6 lead into a 24-8 lead with a 13-2 run and slowly built its lead to as many as 27 points before settling for a 59-38 edge at the half.
 
The lead never dropped below 19 points and peaked at 39 points twice in the second-half.  DSU hit the century mark for the first time since January of 2014 on two free throws from sophomore Brett Barron at the 3:21 mark.
 
The Bulldogs dominated the glass out-rebounding the Nittany Lions, 49-34, and grabbed 18 offensive rebounds leading to 30 second chance points.  DSU also received 42 points from its bench in the win.
 
Laird earns A.B.E. Doors and Windows player of the game honors scoring all 17 points in the first-half and hitting five three-pointers in the win.
 
The Bulldogs return home to host local rival Muhlenberg College in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon beginning at 3:00 pm.
