Men’s Hoops Opens Title Defense on Road at Delaware Valley

Center Valley, PA (February 24, 2015) – The defending Freedom Conference Champions, the DeSales University men's basketball team, will open up its title defense on Wednesday as the #3 seed traveling to second seeded Delaware Valley College for the Freedom Conference Tournament semifinals.
 
DeSales enters with a 17-8 overall record and a 9-5 mark in the Freedom Conference and having won three of the last six Freedom Conference Championships.  Game time is set for 7:00 pm and admission for the event will be $6.00 for adults, $4.00 for senior citizens, and $2.00 for students w/ID.  All children under the age of six are FREE.

DeSales in the Freedom Playoffs:
DeSales is making its 13th appearance, its third straight, in the Freedom Conference Tournament since joining the conference 18 years ago in 1997-98.  The Bulldogs have won three Freedom Conference titles ('09, '10, '14) and been to the conference championship game nine times in its previous 12 appearances, including in each of their last eight appearances.  DSU has a 12-9 record all-time in the Freedom Conference Tournament.
 
DeSales/Delaware Valley Series:
DeSales owns a 38-19 lead in the all-time series between the two teams.  These two split the season series with the home team winning each time.  Wednesday's game will be just the third ever meeting in the Freedom Conference Tournament with the Aggies having won each of the first two.  DSU is 14-13 all-time in Doylestown, PA.
 
Regular Season Series
Game One at DeSales (DSU – 63-55) - BOX SCORE
DSU used a 13-0 first-half run to take a 30-15 lead but then went scoreless over a 7:50 span as the Aggies pulled to within three.  The Bulldogs continued to lead the entire second-half and DVC pulled within one with 4:24 left but a three from sophomore Brian Laird pushed the lead to four and DSU iced the game from the free throw line down the stretch.  DeSales held the Aggies to just 32.3 percent shooting for the game.  Laird led the way with 14 points and junior Cody Deal had 13 points.  Senior Travis Bryan and sophomore Ryan Callahan combined for 21 points and 13 rebounds.  Nick Sullivan led the Aggies with 13 points and Francis Arnold added 12 tallies.
 
Game Two at Delaware Valley (DVC – 77-74) - BOX SCORE
DVC's Chris Moran banked in a shot from just over half court as the buzzer sounded giving the Aggies a dramatic 77-74 win as the Aggies scored the final seven points of the game over a span of 2:02 to earn the win.  The game featured 12 ties and 16 lead changes all together.  DSU shot 51.7 percent for the game and was led by Deal with 20 points, Laird with 15 points, and Bryan with 12 points.  Sophomore Kuity Slanger added 11 points and six assists.  Barry Brockington was the difference for the Aggies scoring 19 points off the bench.  Arnold added 23 points and Moran finished with 13 tallies.
