Softball Splits Season-Opening DH in Florida

Clermont, FL (March 1, 2015) – The DeSales University softball team rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a 7-6 win in its first-game before dropping the second game on day one of its spring break trip to Clermont, FL, 8-2, in the Bulldogs first action of the 2015 season on Sunday.
 
Game One (W/7-6 vs. Mount Union)
DSU (1-1) led 3-1 thru five innings after a two-RBI single from junior Emily Hockman but Mount Union (0-1) scored twice in both the sixth and seventh innings to take a 6-4 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.
 
Sophomore Alexa Beaumont tied the game with a two-run single and senior Carly Bartholomew knocked in sophomore Hailey Marini with a sacrifice fly to left-field with one out to plate the game-winning run.
 
Freshman Andrea Artesani earned the win tossing one inning of relief allowing one earned run.  Hockman finished with three hits and senior Annie Cosentino had two hits in the win.  Freshman Haley Frati scored twice and was on-base all three times she came to the plate.
 
Game Two (L/2-8 vs. Elizabethtown)
The Blue Jays (1-1) scored twice in the first inning and broke the game open with six runs in the third inning to take an 8-0 lead.  The Bulldogs stayed in the game in the fifth scoring twice on a two-run double from senior Kayla Adanalian but managed just four hits in the game two loss.
 
Senior Rachel Vogel suffered the loss allowing five earned runs over 2 2/3 innings.  Artesani pitched well allowing just two hits over 3 1/3 innings in relief.  Frati and sophomore Lyndsay Dotzman scored DSU's two runs.
 
The Bulldogs will return to action on Monday evening when they take on Saint Mary's University (MN) and College of Saint Benedict down in Clermont, FL.
