Borger Blast; Hoos One-Hitter Lead Baseball to DH Sweep over Valiants

Center Valley, PA (March 29, 2015) – Senior Drew Borger hit his first career home run in game one and sophomore Cameron Hoos pitched a one-hit shutout in game two leading the DeSales University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Manhattanville College, 5-2 and 2-0, on Sunday afternoon.

Game One
The Valiants (7-6, 3-2 Freedom) took a 1-0 lead in game one in the top of the third inning on a two-out RBI single Robbie Lynch.  The Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when junior Jay Maletz singled and came around to score on a two-out RBI triple from sophomore Tommy DePaul.

In the bottom of the sixth inning DeSales took control as junior Carlos Urena singled and came around to score on an RBI groundout from Maletz and Borger did the rest blasting a towering home run to right-center field giving DSU a 5-1 lead and eventually a 5-2 win.

DePaul, Maletz, and Urena each had two hits in the game one win.  Freshman Adam Donovan earned the win, his first career victory, pitching six strong innings allowing five hits and one run, striking out six.

Game Two
DSU scored solo runs in the second and fifth inning.  Junior Alec Hardy doubled to lead off the second inning and scored two batters later on a bloop single from senior Nick Fischer and Borger scored in the fifth taking advantage of a two-out error in left field by the Valiants to plate the insurance run.

Hoos did the rest in his first career start allowing just one hit, a bloop just in front of the bag at second base that was bare handed by sophomore Danny Licamara but his throw was a step late at first base ending the no-hit bid with one out in the sixth inning.

Hoos limited the Valiants to just four base-runners all game and struck out eight to earn his first win of the season.  Five different Bulldogs had hits in the win.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to wrap-up up the weekend series with the Valiants tomorrow with first pitch set for 3:30 pm in Purchase, NY.
