Baseball Explodes Early in 16-9 Win over Manhattanville

Purchase, NY (March 30, 2015) – Three home runs from sophomores Mike Kacergis and Tyler Sweeney highlighted the DeSales University baseball team opening up a 14-0 lead thru three innings and cruised over the final six innings to complete the three-game sweep of Manhattanville College on Monday afternoon.
 
Kacergis got DSU (6-7, 3-0 Freedom) on the board in the first inning with a one-out three-run blast and DSU broke the game open in the second inning scoring nine times to take a 12-0 lead.
 
The Bulldogs took advantage of four walks in the inning and got RBI hits from junior Alec Hardy, junior Carlos Urena, and freshman Konner Schneider before Sweeney highlighted nine-run frame with a three-run blast to end the scoring.  In the third inning Urena and junior Colby Kulig each knocked in runs as the Bulldogs took advantage of two more bases on balls.
 
After MVC got on the board with an unearned run in the fourth inning, DSU finished its scoring plating two more runs in the sixth inning on a wild pitch scoring sophomore Jesse Smoot and an RBI groundout from senior Drew Borger.
 
Sophomore Andrew Schuler earned the win pitching five strong innings allowing three hits and one unearned run, striking out three.
 
Borger finished the game with three runs scored and two RBIs, Hardy had two hits and two runs scored, Kacergis finished with two hits, two runs, and four RBIs, Urena had two hits and two RBIs, Schneider scored twice, and Sweeney scored three times and had three RBIs.
 
DeSales is scheduled to return to action tomorrow when they host Misericordia University at Butz Field beginning at 3:30 pm.
