Bulldogs Swept by Stevens Tech, 5-1 and 4-1

Center Valley, PA (April 1, 2015) – Stevens Tech erased 1-0 deficits on both ends of a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon to sweep the DeSales University baseball team by scores of 5-1 and 4-1 at Butz Field.

Game One
DeSales (6-9 overall) took a 1-0 lead in game one in the second inning when junior Carlos Urena singled, stole second, and scored two batters later on a double from junior Jay Maletz.

The Bulldogs starter, junior Chris Polaski, was cruising thru five innings allowing just three hits and five base-runners before junior Eric Dillard took over to start the sixth inning.

Dillard allowed a lead-off double who came around to score two batters later to tie the game at one on a sacrifice fly and then gave up three straight singles before being pulled as the Ducks scored four times in the inning to take a 4-1 lead.  Stevens Tech (10-9 overall) added a solo run in the seventh as the Bulldogs went quietly in the sixth and seventh frames.

DSU managed just three hits for the game in the loss.  Polaski was outstanding on the bump allowing just three hits over five innings, striking out four.

Game Two
DSU again struck first scoring once in the second inning when Urena reached on an error, stole second base again, and came around to score on a single to right-field by junior Colby Kulig.

Stevens Tech responded scoring solo runs in the third, fourth, fifth, and seventh innings.  DeSales had one last chance to get back into the game in the sixth inning putting runners on second and third with one out but Maletz hit a screaming line drive to third base and the runner on third was just late back to the bag leading a line drive double play ending the threat for the Bulldogs.

Junior Chris Zampini suffered the loss allowing two runs over 3 1/3 innings, striking out four.  Urena and Kulig led the charge at the plate accounting for three of DSU's four hits.  Urena stole three bases in the loss.

The Bulldogs are right back in action tomorrow when they return to Freedom Conference play traveling to Eastern University for a single game starting at 3:00 pm.
