Seguin, TX (March 4, 2015) – After the DeSales University baseball team opened up a 4-0 lead entering the bottom of the second inning, Texas Lutheran University scored 11 unanswered runs to earn an 11-4 win over the Bulldogs in DSU's fourth game in four days out in San Antonion, TX for spring break.
The Bulldogs (2-2) were sharp thru the first two innings at the plate scoring once in the first inning when sophomore
Tyler Sweeney reached on an error, was sacrificed over to third, and scored on an RBI ground out from freshman
Conner Lafferty.
In the second, junior
Alec Hardy had an RBI single plating junior
Carlos Urena, and junior
Carrington Santana drove in sophomore
Jesse Smoot and Hardy with a base hit to left center field giving DSU a 4-0 lead.
TLU (9-5) answered with two runs in the bottom of the second inning but DeSales still held a 4-2 lead entering the bottom of the fourth when Texas Lutheran tied the game at four.
The game remained tied entering the bottom of the sixth inning when TLU scored three times and added four more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to preserve the win.
Senior
Eric Elmer suffered the loss allowing three runs over 2 1/3 innings of relief. DSU managed just five hits offensively, led by Hardy who went 3-for-3 with a walk. DeSales did steal three bases on the afternoon.
The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday when they take on Trinity University with first pitch set for 8:00 pm (EST).
