Clermont, FL (March 5, 2015) – The DeSales University softball team split its final two games of its spring break trip to Clermont, FL, dropping game one on Thursday, 5-1, to John Carroll University before defeating Johnson & Wales University, 8-3, in the second game.
Game One (L/1-5 vs. John Carroll)John Carroll scored twice in the first inning and once in the second inning to open up a 3-0 lead early. DSU (2-6 overall) threatened in both the fourth and fifth innings but left two runners on base each frame and JCU scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 5-0 lead.
DeSales plated its lone run in the top of the seventh inning when junior

Emily Hockman, McCauley, and sophomore
Alexa Beaumont each had two hits in the loss. McCauley suffered the loss in the circle allowing 10 hits and three earned runs over six innings pitched.
Game Two (W/8-3 vs. Johnson & Wales)Johnson & Wales opened up a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning but the Bulldogs answered with two tallies in the second and three more in the third to take a 5-1 lead.
In the second frame, freshman
Haley Frati doubled home and senior
Carly Bartholomew and scored three batters later on a double from junior
Michelle Gessner. In the third inning, sophomore
Hailey Marini hit a solo home run with one out, Beaumont tripled and scored on a double off the bat of Bartholomew who also scored on a sacrifice from freshman
Andrea Artesani.
J&W got a run back in both the third and fourth innings to pull within 5-3 but DSU added three more runs in the seventh to take a five-run lead and cruised in from there. Junior pinch-hitter
Katie Bearn knocked in two runs with a single and scored on a J&W error later in the inning.
Bartholomew and Frati each had three hits and Beaumont, Marini, and Gessner all had two hits in the win. Artesani earned the win scattering eight hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out four.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to return to action on March 13
th traveling cross-town to take on local rival Muhlenberg College beginning at 3:00 pm.
