Baseball Splits Two Games on Friday

San Antonio, TX (March 6, 2015) – The DeSales University baseball team split two games on Friday, defeating Cardinal Stritch University, 12-6, in the morning before falling to McMurry University, 11-2, in the evening with both games being played at Trinity University.
 
Game One (W/12-6 vs. Cardinal Stritch University)
A scoreless game heading into the third inning was broken open by the Bulldogs (3-4) with four runs in the third and fourth innings giving DSU an 8-0 lead.
 
Junior Colby Kulig had a bases clearing triple in the third inning plating DeSales' first three runs and sophomore Richie Lancashire knocked Kulig with an RBI single.  In the fourth, Kulig drove in two more runs with a two-RBI single.
 
CSU got three runs back in the bottom of the fifth inning, but DSU added solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings and two more in the seventh to lead 12-3 before Stritch posted three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to provide the final tally.
 
Sophomore Tyler Sweeney earned the win pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief allowing two hits and striking out two.  Sophomore Jesse Smoot had three hits and scored twice, freshman Hunter Hart scored three times, and Kulig had two hits and knocked in five runs.  Lancashire added three hits, sophomore Tyler Cooperman had two hits, and freshman Konner Schneider was on-base four times, drawing three walks in the win.
 
Game Two (L/2-11 vs. McMurry University)
McMurry broke open a close game in the top of the fifth inning extending a 3-1 lead with two runs in the fifth, four runs in the sixth, and two more runs in the seventh to open up an 11-1 lead.
 
DSU scored its runs in the fourth, when junior Alec Hardy scampered home during a double steal attempt before freshman Kevin Benjamin was tagged out, and in the eighth when sophomore Tommy DePaul doubled and scored two batters later on an RBI single from fellow sophomore Mike Kacergis.
 
Sophomore Andrew Schuler suffered the loss allowing three earned runs over five innings.
 
The Bulldogs wrap-up their trip on Saturday when they take on McMurry University for two more games beginning at 1:00 pm.
