Baseball Scores Season-High 18 Runs to Take Series with FDU

Center Valley, PA (April 13, 2015) – The DeSales University baseball team scored a season-high 18 runs, scoring in each of the first seven innings, to earn an 18-4 win over FDU-Florham to take two of three from the Devils in the three game series that wrapped up on Monday afternoon at Butz Field.
 
The Bulldogs (12-11, 9-2 Freedom) scored twice in the first inning on hits by sophomore Tommy DePaul and senior Drew Borger who came around to score on an FDU throwing error and a sacrifice fly from junior Alec Hardy.
 
DSU added two more in the second on just one hit, an RBI single from Borger, and plated three runs in the third on four singles by sophomore Mike Kacergis, junior Colby Kulig, sophomore Richie Lancashire, and junior Carrington Santana to lead 7-0.
 
FDU got one run back in the top of the fourth inning but a three-run fourth inning by the Bulldogs including an RBI triple from Kacergis and an RBI double from junior Jay Maletz gave DSU a 10-1 lead.
 
DeSales added one more in the fifth, four more in the sixth, and three more tallies in the seventh before FDU got three runs in the top of the ninth to provide the final tally.
 
DePaul finished with two hits and two runs scored, Borger had three hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored, Hardy knocked in two runs, Kacergis scored three times and had two hits, Maletz had two hits, Lancashire scored four runs, and Santana finished with three hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs.
 
Junior Steven Wallace tossed seven solid innings allowing just four hits and one unearned run, striking out eight, to earn his third victory of the year.
 
The Bulldogs are right back in action tomorrow when they host Lebanon Valley College in a non-conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
