First Inning Runs Hold Up as Bulldogs Win Fourth Straight

Bethlehem, PA (April 15, 2015) – The Bulldogs scored four runs in the first inning and that was all junior Chris Polaski and the bullpen needed in DSU"s fourth straight win, 4-1 over local rival Moravian College on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

After sophomore Tommy DePaul and senior Drew Borger drew walks to start the game and Moravian College (12-14) allowed DePaul to score and put runners on the corners.  Sophomore Mike Kacergis knocked in two more runs with a single up the middle and came around to score three batters later on a fielder's choice off the bat of sophomore Richie Lancashire.

Moravian answered with one run of its own in the bottom of the inning but that was all the scoring for the next eight innings as Polaski pitched into the seventh allowing just four more base runners after the first inning before allowing the first two to reach in the bottom of the seventh.

Sophomore Tyler Cooperman entered at that point and stranded both runners at third on a foul out and two strikeouts to end the frame.  Cooperman pitched a perfect eighth inning and after getting the first out of the ninth inning, junior Evan Fraser retired the final two batters to earn his fifth save of the season.

Polaski earned the win allowing just four hits over six innings pitched, striking out seven.  Freshman Conner Lafferty, Lancashire, and junior Carrington Santana all had two hits as part of a 10-hit Bulldog attack.

DSU will look to make it five straight tomorrow when they travel to Swarthmore College for another non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
