Swarthmore, PA (April 16, 2015) – Despite allowing just two hits all day the DeSales University baseball team saw its four-game win streak snapped in a 2-1 loss at Swarthmore College in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon.
In what turned out to be a true pitcher's duel the Garnet Tide (17-10) were able to string together their only two hits of the day on back-to-back at-bats in the fifth inning as two runs scored after a lead-off walk.
DSU (14-12) got one run back in the top of the sixth inning as sophomore
Danny Licamara doubled and came around to score two batters later on a double from senior
Drew Borger.
That, however, was all the scoring the Bulldogs could get as they saw three runners get picked off first base in the loss and left the tying run at second base with one out in the top of the ninth inning.
Freshman
Adam Donovan suffered the loss lasting five innings allowing just those two hits and two runs, striking out three. He was hurt by the walk, surrendering seven free passes on the afternoon. Senior
Eric Dillard was outstanding in relief pitching three perfect innings, striking out one.
Freshman
Hunter Hart finished 2-for-2 with two walks at the plate to lead a six-hit attack.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they travel to PNC Park in Moosic, PA to take on King's College in the first game of this weekend's three game set.
