Manhattanville Outlasts Men’s Lacrosse, 8-7, in 5 OT

Purchase, NY (April 21, 2015) – The DeSales University men's lacrosse team was unable to hold a 4-0 lead early in the second quarter, falling at Manhattanville College, 8-7, in five OT's in Freedom Conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

DSU (4-8, 1-4 Freedom) dominated the start of the game, scoring the first four goals of the game and leading 4-0 at the two minutes into the second quarter.  The Bulldogs out-shot the Valiants (5-8, 1-4 Freedom), 26-11, in the first-half and led 5-3 at the break.

MVC controlled the third quarter, out-shooting DeSales, 9-2, to take a 6-5 lead, but the Bulldogs rallied in the fourth, holding an 8-1 edge in shots in the final quarter, tying the game at seven.

Senior Ryan Loughlin nearly ended the game in the second OT, hitting the post on a shot and DSU controlled play for most of the OT periods winning the face-off in each of the first three OT's and holding a 12-9 shot advantage in the five OT's.

DSU won the face-off to start the fifth OT, but a quick turnover gave the Valiants possession and after a timeout, MVC's Andrew Murray scored his fifth goal of the game to give Manhattanville the win.

Freshman Joe Neggia led the Bulldogs with four goals and senior Ryan Rowse had two.  Freshman Josh Harman added the other tally and sophomore Tyler Newman had an assist.

Junior Matt Warnken made 12 saves in goal and senior Dylan Baxter won 15-of-23 face-offs on the day, picking up 10 ground balls.

The loss eliminates the Bulldogs from the post-season tournament picture.  DSU will finish its 2015 season on Saturday when they travel to Delaware Valley College for a Freedom Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
