Bulldogs Earn Wild Five-Set Win over King’s

Center Valley, PA (September 16, 2015) – The DeSales University volleyball rallied from down one set in the fourth and down 13-10 in the fifth set to earn a wild 3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 26-28, 25-8, 16-14) win over MAC Freedom foe King's College in the first conference match of the season for both teams Wednesday night in Billera Hall.

King's (8-1, 0-1 MAC Freedom) took the first set scoring the final three points of the set to win 25-23 before the Bulldogs (7-4, 1-0 MAC Freedom) controlled play in the second set to win 25-18.

In the third set the Bulldogs had serve and set point twice at 25-24 and 26-25 but each time the Lady Monarchs fought off the point and scored the final three points of the third set to take the 2-1 lead.

DeSales completely dominated the fourth set turning a 6-4 score into a 14-4 lead as sophomore Bernadette Wood served seven straight points that included one ace and two kills from fellow sophomore Logan Wieziolowski before cruising to a 25-8 fourth set win forcing the fifth and final set.

In the fifth DSU took a 4-3 lead on a kill from freshman Gabby Savite' before KC scored five straight points to take a commanding 8-4 lead as the two teams switched sides.  King's continued to lead, 11-6, three straight Lady Monarch errors helped the Bulldogs pull within two points at 11-9.

The two teams traded kills over the next three points with King's taking a 13-10 lead and in command but two straight kills from senior Kait Anderson forced a Lady Monarch timeout leading by just one, 13-12.  Out of the timeout Anderson recorded her third straight kill to tie the match and a King's error gave DSU a set point at 14-13 but a Bulldog hitting error tied the match back at 14.

Anderson came thru again with another kill to make it 15-14 and Jill Korgeski's attack on the next point sailed just long giving DSU the 16-14 come from behind win.

Several Bulldogs had incredible performances on Wednesday including Wieziolowski with a match-high 20 kills and four blocks.  Anderson was fantastic totaling 18 kills and hitting .325 and Savite was tremendous with 16 kills and a match-high tying 19 digs.

Junior Lisa Wallitsch was outstanding missing the 5-set match record of assists by just two handing out 62 helpers and adding 12 digs, while freshman Natalie Gray equaled Savite's 19 digs in the win.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Friday and Saturday traveling to the Christopher Newport University Invitational for three matches.
