Purchase, NY (September 22, 2015) – The DeSales University volleyball shook off some first set rust to reel off three straight wins in a 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-21) win at Manhattanville College in Kennedy Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
The Bulldogs (10-5, 2-0 MAC Freedom) had complete control of the first set early leading 11-4 after three straight kills around a Valiant (8-3, 0-2 MAC Freedom) timeout. MVC chipped way tying the set at 16 before DSU took a 22-18 lead on a kill from freshman
Gabby Savite'. DSU committed back-to-back hitting errors as MVC tied it at 22 before scoring three of the final four points for the comeback first set win.
DeSales again started quickly in the second set leading 11-4 once again and never looked back in the 25-17 win. In the third set it was another quick start as the Bulldogs opened up a 10-3 lead and shook off a late comeback attempt by the Valiants to win 25-22.
Manhattanville started quickly in the fourth set taking a 10-5 lead but five straight points from DSU tied the set at 10 and the Bulldogs eventually led 18-14 never trailing the rest of the way in the four-set win.
Savite' was tremendous in the win totaling 18 kills and a team-high 24 digs. Sophomore
Logan Wieziolowski finished with 15 kills and five blocks and senior
Kait Anderson had eight kills.
Junior
Lisa Wallitsch finished with 49 assists and five kills, senior
Laura Greenberg played well with 16 digs and three aces, freshman
Natalie Gray had 15 digs, and sophomore
Bernadette Wood added 13 digs and three aces.
DSU returns to action on Thursday evening when they host Haverford College in a non-conference match beginning at 7:00 pm.
