DSU Stays Unbeaten in Five-Setters with Win over Haverford

Center Valley, PA (September 24, 2015) – Freshman Gabby Savite' totaled a season-high 20 kills and notched her 11th double-double with 17 digs leading the DeSales University volleyball team past Haverford College, 3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 25-18, 21-25, 15-12), in non-conference action on Thursday evening.
 
The Bulldogs (11-5) have now won three straight and five of their last six matches with the lone loss coming to #2 Christopher Newport University.
 
DSU shook off a tough loss in set #1 to take sets two and three by a 25-18 score.  The Fords (8-4) showed some fight in the fourth set taking an early lead and pulling away late for a 25-21 win.
 
The fifth set was tied at five when DeSales won three straight points to take an 8-5 lead as the two teams changed sides.  A kill by junior Jess Swanson made it 11-7 Bulldogs and forced a Ford timeout.  HC responded out of the timeout with three straight points before Swanson ended the run with a kill but Haverford scored two straight to tie the score at 12.
 
Senior Kait Anderson came up big with a kill to make it 13-12 and sophomore Logan Wieziolowski finished it off with back-to-back kills to end the match.
 
Savite' hit .275 for the match and added four blocks to her stat line.  Wieziolowski finished with 11 kills and five blocks and Swanson added 10 kills.  Freshman Taylor Antoniewicz finished with nine kills and four blocks.
 
Junior Lisa Wallitsch ran an efficient offense that hit .202 for the match dishing out 49 assists and added 12 digs and four aces, while freshman Natalie Gray led the defense with 18 digs and four aces.  Sophomore Bernadette Wood also had double digit digs with 11.
 
The Bulldogs are off this weekend and will return to action on Wednesday, September 20th when they travel to Eastern University for a MAC Freedom match.
