Second-Half Goals help Muhlenberg Steal 2-1 Win

Center Valley, PA (September 23, 2015) – Muhlenberg College scored twice, including an own goal, in the second-half as the Mules stole a 2-1 win over the DeSales University men's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

The Bulldogs (3-5) took a 1-0 lead just before the half when sophomore Dan Sulpizio made a save, threw a long outlet to freshman Michael Kirby who took the ball at midfield, dribbled around three Mule defenders and fired a shot just inside the box into the upper right corner of the goal.  It was Kirby's third goal of the season and the first that wasn't a penalty kick goal.

The lead was short lived however as just 39 seconds into the second-half the Bulldogs made a costly mistake as a service into the box by Muhlenberg (3-3-1) was miscommunicated by the DSU defense leading to an own goal when a header from a defender got past the goalkeeper who had run out to catch the pass in mid-air.

The game remained tied into the 66th minute when MC's Jeff Remley scored his second tally of the season on an assist from Tommy Hoffmann.

DSU had a terrific chance to tie the game in the 88th minute when freshman Zach Reichard took a slip pass and had a 1-v-1 with the Mule keeper but a low shot was narrowly kicked away and the corner kick was kicked over the end line.

Muhlenberg had an 11-8 advantage in shots, while DeSales held a 9-0 edge in corner kicks.  Sulpizio made four saves in his return to the starting lineup.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they host Alvernia University on homecoming beginning at 3:30 pm.
