Center Valley, PA (September 26, 2015) – The DeSales University men's soccer team sent a capacity homecoming crowd home happy on Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 win comeback win over Alvernia University in non-conference action.
Alvernia (3-2-4) took a 1-0 lead just 2:39 into the game when
Rocky Elgogari scored off a rebound of a saved header less than three minutes into the game, briefly quieting a crowd of more than 600 people on homecoming weekend at DeSales.
The Bulldogs (4-5) found the equalizer in the 39
th minute just before halftime when senior
Patrick Roche took advantage of a loose ball in the box, finding the back of the net for his second goal of the season tying the game at one into the half.
DSU was fortunate to find the eventual game-winner just over 10 minutes into the second-half when a Crusader defender had a long over the top service carom off his head towards the Alvernia goalmouth catching the visiting team's goalkeeper off guard as she tried to scramble back to punch the ball over the crossbar but he wasn't able to get back in time as the ball found the back of the net for a 2-1 DeSales lead that eventually stood.
DeSales had a 12-9 advantage in shots and a slim 5-4 edge in corner kicks in the win. Sophomore
Dan Sulpizio made four saves in the win in between the pipes.
DeSales is back to action on Wednesday, September 30
th when they travel to Albright College for a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
