Center Valley, PA (September 26, 2015) – Eastern University scored the first three goals of the game to earn a 3-1 win over the DeSales University field hockey team in the first MAC Freedom game of the season for both teams on Saturday afternoon.
EU (6-1, 1-0 MAC Freedom) took a 1-0 lead in the 23
rd minute when
Alison Hoag knocked in a centering pass from
Jess Kinzler and that score stood into the half. The Eagles needed just 1:36 in the second-half to get their second goal and added a third 10:05 later to take a 3-0 lead.
The Bulldogs (1-7, 0-1 MAC Freedom) did out-shoot Eastern in the second-half, 9-5, but weren't able to find the back of the cage until 69
th minute when junior
Nicola McDermott scored on a push shot after junior
Alexa Beaumont dug a ball out a scrum on the side of the net circle and pushed a pass to McDermott in the center of the goal.
EU finished the game with a 13-11 advantage in shots and a 16-10 edge in penalty corners for the game. Freshman
Savanna Lacek made seven saves in net and senior
Julia Martinez had two more defensive saves in the game.
DSU returns to action on Tuesday when they host Susquehanna University in a non-conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
