Bertola Nets Hat Trick in 8-0 Win over Cairn

Langhorne, PA (September 4, 2015) – Sophomore Angelica Bertola scored three goals and added an assist for a seven points afternoon leading the DeSales University women's soccer team past Cairn University, 8-0, on Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (2-0) were extremely efficient firing 18 shots and scoring on eight of them as DSU opened up a 6-0 lead in the first-half and never looked back.  DSU finished with an 18-10 edge in shots and a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks in the win.

Bertola started the scoring just 5:21 into the game netting her first goal of the season on an assist from junior Jess Wetherhold.  Sophomore Danni Engwall scored just under four minutes later on an assist from sophomore Rachel Logue and Wetherhold and Bertola traded places for the third goal in the 15th minute.

Sophomore Gabby Lucchese got her first marker of the season with an unassisted tally in the 27th minute and Logue scored off a feed from sophomore Kelly Riley just shy of the 30-minute mark.

Freshman Sydney Gandy scored to end the first-half scoring on an assist from freshman Caroline Nealon and Bertola scored the only two goals of the second-half, both unassisted tallies, to provide the final margin.

Freshman Haley Jacobs played the first-half in goal making three saves, while junior Emily Hoats and sophomore Shannon Pennella split the second-half to record the shared shutout.

The Bulldogs are right back in action tomorrow when they travel to SUNY-Oswego for another non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
