Jen Napolitano scored a career-high 20 points and junior
Morgan McCollian recorded her eighth double-double of the season leading the DeSales University women's basketball team to its seventh straight win, 74-51, at FDU-Florham in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon.
McCollian finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds to record her eighth double-double of the year and Napolitano was terrific netting 20 points, including 17 in the second-half, including four three-pointers to lead the Bulldogs (11-4, 4-0 MAC Freedom).
Junior
Megan Baird continued her hot shooting as well hitting four three-pointers for 13 points off the bench and senior
Kelly Anthony had a strong game with seven points and four rebounds.
Alyssa McDonough led the Devils (10-5, 2-2 MAC Freedom) with a team-high 16 points and five assists, while
Fernanda Reyes also netted 16 points on four three-pointers in the loss.
DeSales took its first lead at 3-2 3:23 into the game on a lay-up from McCollian and never trailed the rest of the game as DSU used a 9-0 to take a 9-2 lead with McCollian scoring seven of the nine points.
The lead swelled to 16-4 late in the first quarter and was 14 points (29-15) after three straight 3's from Baird and Napolitano late in the second quarter before DSU took a 33-20 lead into the locker room.
The Bulldogs put the game away in the third quarter out-scoring the Devils, 23-13, and led by as many as 24 points twice before taking a 56-33 advantage into the fourth quarter. FDU did get within 16 points in the fourth but DeSales had the answer posting the final 23-point margin.
DeSales had a terrific shooting afternoon hitting 47.5 percent from the field and 44.4 percent (8-for-18) from the three-point arc. DSU also committed just 11 turnovers in the game and had 20 assists led by junior
Nikki Callahan with six and freshman
Katie Miller and
Morgan Birmelin with three each. Miller also pulled down a season-high eight rebounds and Callahan added five steals.
FDU shot just 30.4 percent for the game and committed 17 miscues. DSU also dominated the paint out-scoring FDU, 36-12, in the lane.
Napolitano earns
A.B.E. Doors and Windows Player of the
Game honors with 17 of career-high 20 points in the second-half.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday when they host Wilkes University in a MAC Freedom game beginning at 6:00 pm.
