Late Aggie Rally Spoils Bulldog Win Streak at Eight

Doylestown, PA (January 22, 2016) – Delaware Valley out-scored the DeSales University women's basketball team 15-6 over the final five minutes as the Bulldogs saw their eight-game win streak come to an end, 75-71, in MAC Freedom action on Friday evening.

Senior Jen Napolitano led the Bulldogs (12-5, 5-1 MAC Freedom) with a career-high 24 points and sophomore Kaitlin Kelly added a career-high 22 points.  Junior Megan Baird finished with 10 points, freshman Morgan Birmelin dished out seven assists, and junior Morgan McCollian pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

Eireann Anastasi finished with a game-high 30 points, including a perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line, Danielle Skedzielweski totaled 18 points, and Kelsey Kilpatrick finished with 10 points in the win.

DeSales led 65-60 after Napolitano hit a three at the 5:02 mark but five straight points from the Aggies tied the score at 65 with 3:36 to go.  One free throw gave DSU the lead back before Anastasi and Napolitano traded 3's giving DSU a 69-68 lead with 2:40 left.

After an Aggie miss, McCollian was fouled on the following possession but missed both free throws.  DVU turned it over but DSU gave it right back in transition and Anastasi nailed a corner three-pointer at 1:27 giving Del.Val. a 71-69 lead.

DSU got a good look on a jumper from the foul line that hit back rim but were forced to foul with 17 seconds left.  Morgan Mitchell hit 1-of-2 making it a three-point game but a three from Kelly from the deep corner with 11 seconds left was long and DVU iced the win from the line providing the final margin.

The Bulldogs started the game slow falling behind 19-13 after one quarter but scored 28 points in the second quarter to take a 41-37 lead into the locker rooms.  Defense dominated in the third quarter as the two teams combined for just 23 points setting up the deciding fourth.

DeSales struggled from the field hitting just 30.8 percent for the game and just 25.7 percent in the second-half.  The Aggies hit 42.0 percent for the game and 48.1 percent in the second-half.

Kelly earns A.B.E. Doors and Windows Player of the Game honors hitting six three-pointers in the loss.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, January 27th when they return home to host Eastern University beginning at 6:00 pm.
