Madison, NJ (October 1, 2016) - The DeSales University men's soccer team opened MAC Freedom play on Saturday earning a 2-1 road win over FDU-Florham on goals by sophomores
Michael Kirby and
Alex DiRienzo.
Kirby started the scoring in the ninth minute taking a thru ball from fellow sophomore
Justin Habick and beating the GK over his left shoulder for a 1-0 Bulldog (6-4-1, 1-0 MAC Freedom) lead as that score stood into the half.
DiRienzo had a wonderful hustle play in the 62nd minute as the Devil goalkeeper narrowly beat DiRienzo to a 50/50 ball at the top of the box. DiRienzo's hustle on the play blocked the attempted clear high into the air where he was able to camp underneath and knock the loose ball into a wide open net for a very important insurance goal.
The Devil's did pull within one just under five minutes later but that was as close as they came as junior
Dan Sulpizio made six saves to preserve the one goal win.
DeSales returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to William Paterson University for a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
