Honnick-Payne Scores Twice in 3-2 OT Win over Manhattanville

Center Valley, PA (October 19, 2016) - Freshman Kylie Honnick-Payne scored twice, including the game-winner in OT, lifting the DeSales University field hockey team past Manhattanville College, 3-2, in overtime on Wednesday evening.

The Bulldogs (6-10, 1-4 MAC Freedom) dominated play the entire game out-shooting the Valiants (9-5, 3-2 MAC Freedom), 21-7, for the game and holding a decisive 22-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Despite the advantage DSU fell behind 1-0 at the half as MVC scored the only first-half goal in the 21st minute.

DeSales tied the game 11:40 into the second-half when sophomore Chelsea DeFrancisco tipped home a pass off a corner from freshman Madison Brader.  Just under three minutes later DSU took a 2-1 lead when Honnick-Payne scored her first of two, taking a rebound and rifling a shot past the MVC keeper.

Manhattanville tied the score at two in the 51st minute as the game went to overtime.

DSU took the only shots in the OT period and 7:19 into the extra frame, Honnick-Payne got the ball around midfield, dribbled around two Valiant defenders and hit a shot from just inside the circle that got past the MVC keeper into the cage for the game-winner.

Senior Alexa Beaumont made her first career start in goalkeeper and made three saves in the win.

The Bulldogs will look to make it two in a row on Saturday when they travel to Misericordia University for a MAC Freedom game beginning at Noon.
