Swarthmore, PA (October 22, 2016) - Senior
Lisa Wallitsch broke the all-time career record for assists on Saturday recording her 4,097th career helper leading the DeSales University volleyball team to two wins on day two of the Garnet Classic at Swarthmore College.
DeSales (19-12) swept Catholic University (21-10), 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-21), to start the day before earning a 3-1 (26-24, 25-20, 23-25, 25-15) win over Colby College to finish the day.
Wallitsch had 44 assists in the win over Catholic and needed 47 assists to tie the record and 48 to break the mark. With DSU leading 23-15 in the fourth set vs. Colby, Wallitsch set sophomore
Gabby Savite` and Savite` put down the kill giving Wallitsch her 48th assist in the match and 4,097th of her career. She surpasses
Sharon Uliana who had held the mark with 4,096 career assists. She was the lone Bulldog named to the All-Tournament Team.
Match #1 (3-0 vs. Catholic)
DSU had two of its best sets of the season in the first and second set hitting .395 in both sets to earn 25-23 and 25-22 wins. In the third set the Bulldogs took advantage of Catholic making 11 hitting errors to close out the match 25-21.
Savite` was tremendous in the win over the Cardinals recording 20 kills and 21 digs, hitting .349 for the match. Freshman
Morghan Shoemaker added eight kills and sophomore
Taylor Antoniewicz finished with eight kills and hit .467. Junior
Bernadette Wood was outstanding on the backline with 19 digs and sophomore
Natalie Gray added 11 digs in the win.
Match #2 (3-1 vs. Colby)
Once again the Bulldogs had a terrific hitting performance hitting .290 for the match, including a .444 percentage in the decisive fourth set.
Savite` again led the charge with 16 kills and 14 digs, Shoemaker finished with 14 kills, senior
Jess Swanson added 11 kills, and freshman
Jenna Sievert added nine kills and hit .429 for the match.
Gray led the defense with 22 digs and Wood added 12 more digs in the win.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to King's College for the final regular season MAC Freedom game beginning at 7:00 pm.
