Center Valley, PA (October 27, 2016) - Moravian College scored with 14 seconds left in regulation sending the game into overtime and found the game-winner with just 24 seconds left in the first OT period stealing away a 2-1 win over the DeSales University men's soccer team on a rain soaked Thursday afternoon.
With both teams resting starters for the entire game in anticipation of big conference games on Saturday the Bulldogs (9-7-2 overall) took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute when seniorÂ
Damian Grycel played a centering pass into the box where sophomoreÂ
Dan Rumpf scored his first goal of the season and that goal stood into the half.
The Bulldogs were literally seconds away from taking home their seventh shutout win of the season when the DSU defense gave away a free kick with a foul just outside the box on the right sideline with about 25 seconds left. Â Moravian (8-4-3) hurried to get the free kick off and the DSU goalkeeper called for the ball, but the wet ball slipped thru his hands, and the Greyhounds'Â
Matthew Clayton was amidst a swarm of Moravian attackers to knock the ball in tying the game at one with 14 seconds left.
The game seemed headed for a second OT when Moravian earned back-to-back corners with less than a minute left. Â
Robert McKinley quickly served in the second corner and sophomoreÂ
Michael Guarino beat everyone to the ball, flicking a shot over a DSU defender on the far post giving MC the dramatic win.
DSU had a 7-5 edge in shots in the first-half but Moravian dominated the second-half out-shooting DeSales, 20-7 in the second-half and overtime. Â MC also had a slim 7-5 edge in corner kicks for the game.
SeniorÂ
Ryan O'Neill made eight saves for the Bulldogs in net.
DeSales returns to action on Saturday when they host Eastern University in the MAC Freedom regular season finale beginning at 2:30 pm needing a win to secure a home playoff game next week.
