Center Valley, PA (November 30, 2016) - Senior
Brian Laird scored a season-high 27 points, two shy of his career-high, leading the DeSales University men's basketball team past Arcadia University, 87-71, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.
Laird hit 6-of-10 from three-point land and added two steals, while senior
Ryan Callahan and junior
Connor Jones each had 14 points. Callahan added six rebounds and four blocks and senior
Brandon Bridy finished with eight points and five rebounds.
Evan Slone totaled 21 points and eight rebounds,
Josh Scott added 17 points, and
Ryan Kelley and
Brandon Thompson added 10 points to lead the Knights (1-3).
Arcadia held a 12-11 lead five minutes into the game before the Bulldogs (3-2) used a 12-0 highlighted by 3's from Laird and Jones to take a 23-12 lead. Arcadia chipped away pulling within two (29-27) with 4:52 to go before two straight three's from Laird ignited a 12-4 run to end the half giving DeSales a 41-31 halftime lead.
It remained a a 10-point game (51-41) six minutes into the half before DSU pulled away with a 12-2 run thanks to six points from Jones and a three from freshman
Tracy Simsick and DeSales never looked back from there.
The Bulldogs were on fire from the field hitting 56.3 percent from the field and going 10-for-18 from outside the arc. DSU controlled the glass with a 36-32 edge and saw its bench out-score the Knights, 34-9, for the game.
DSU returns to action on Monday, December 5th when they travel to play Catholic University in a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
