Union, NJ (February 27, 2016) – Kean University scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning handing the DeSales University baseball team a 4-3 loss in the 2016 season opener for the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.
Kean (2-3) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on two singles and a walk but senior
Steven Wallace settled in from there tossing six scoreless innings.
The Bulldogs (0-1) took a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning on RBI walks from sophomore
Conner Lafferty and junior
Richie Lancashire and an RBI single from senior
Colby Kulig.

Adam Donovan retired the side easily in the seventh and eighth innings but in the bottom of the ninth senior
Kevin Benjamin allowed two singles to start the inning. After a sacrifice bunt moving runners to second and third with one out, KU's
Ryan Reitmeyer laced a double to left-center field plating the game tying and winning runs.
Benjamin suffered the loss for the Bulldogs, while Wallace finished with seven innings pitched allowing just five hits and striking out four. Junior
Danny Licamara led the offense with two hits including a double a run scored.
The Bulldogs don't return to action till next week when they open a six-day six-game trip out to San Antonio, TX on March 7
th vs. University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
