Clearwater, FL (March 10, 2016) – After a furious rally that saw the DeSales University men's lacrosse team score two goals in the last 25 seconds to force overtime the Bulldogs dropped their third straight one-goal game, 12-11, to Marymount University in the second game of DSU's spring break trip to Clearwater, FL.
The Bulldogs (0-4) had complete control of this game early opening up a 7-3 lead with the first goal scored to open the third quarter. MU (3-2) scored six of the next seven goals however to take a 9-8 lead with 12:55 left to play in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore
Joe Neggia answered with a man-up goal to tie the game at nine but Marymount scored two straight goals including the second with just 49 seconds left giving MU an 11-9 lead.
The Bulldogs were given a man-up non-releasable three minute penalty though for illegal equipment following MU's goal and capitalized as sophomore
Freddy Harris scored with 25 seconds left making it a one-goal game. Marymount was called for another penalty giving DSU a two man-up situation and senior
Ryan Loughlin was able to find the game-tying goal with just five seconds left off an assist from junior
Ryan Jordan.
Both teams had chances in the overtime period as the Bulldogs were unable to connect on two shots despite still being one man-up. Marymount got possession and despite being man-down were able to out-race the DeSales defense as
Max Johnson scored man-down 1:39 into the extra period to end the game.
Sophomore
Tommy Friedman, Loughlin, and Neggia each scored two goals in the loss, while junior
Jake McNamara, Wilson, junior
Tyler Newman, sophomore
Bryan Weber, and Harris also each scored. Wilson had two assists, while Newman, Jordan, Neggia, Loughlin, and sophomore
Josh Harman also each had a helper.
McNamara picked up a team-high five ground balls and was 9-for-19 in face-offs and senior
Tim Barry led the charge with three caused turnovers on defense. Senior
Matt Warnken made 11 saves in net.
The Bulldogs return to action on March 19
th when they travel to Gwynedd-Mercy University for another non-conference game beginning at Noon.
