Center Valley, PA (March 17, 2016) – The DeSales University softball team suffered two losses in its 2016 home opener falling to local rival Muhlenberg College, 8-2 and 9-2, in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon.
Game One (L/2-8)DSU (2-5) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single from junior
Alexa Beaumont but the Mules (6-8) scored twice in the second inning and five times in the third inning before both team exchanged runs in the seventh including a solo home run from sophomore
Haley Frati in the first game.
Muhlenberg had 16 hits, while DeSales totaled six in the loss. Beaumont accounted for two of DSU's six hits, while Frati and freshman
Adrianna Barone scored the two Bulldog runs. Sophomore
Andrea Artesani took the loss allowing six earned runs over three innings. Sophomore
Hailey Warner pitched well in relief allowing just one run over the final four innings.
Game Two (L/2-9)Muhlenberg jumped out early scoring in each of the first five innings, including a four-run second inning to take a 6-0 lead thru 2 ½ innings. DSU got a run back in the third when Frati was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded but the Bulldogs stranded three runners on base falling behind 8-1 after five innings.
The Mules had 14 hits in the game two win as compared to just three for the Bulldogs. Freshman
Ashley Hunter knocked in the second run with an RBI groundout in the sixth scoring Frati who had doubled to lead off the frame.
Artesani again took the loss allowing five earned runs over four innings. Warner pitched the final three innings allowing four hits and two runs.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they travel up to Misericordia University for the first two MAC Freedom games of the season beginning at 1:00 pm.
