Baseball Pulls Away Late in 11-5 Win at Lebanon Valley

Annville, PA (March 21, 2016) – The DeSales University baseball team scored four times in the seventh and three more in the eighth opening up an 11-4 lead and never looked back from there in an 11-5 win over Lebanon Valley College on Monday afternoon.
 
The Bulldogs (5-6) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning on an RBI sacrifice bunt from junior Tyler Sweeney, an RBI single from freshman Tommy Epsaro, and two Dutchmen (5-9) errors.  LVC battled back scoring once in the second, once in the third, and twice in the fourth to tie the game at four.
 
The game remained tied entering the seventh inning when DSU plated four runs all coming with two outs to take control.  Junior Richie Lancashire doubled home two runs to start the scoring in the seventh and scored one batter later on another double from Sweeney.  Sweeney then crossed home plate on an RBI single from sophomore Konner Schneider.
 
The Bulldogs added three more runs in the eighth on RBI hits from junior Mike Kacergis, sophomore Conner Lafferty, and Lancashire.
 
Senior Kevin Benjamin earned the win pitching three innings of solid relief allowing three hits and no runs.  Junior Tyler Cooperman earned the save allowing just two hits and one unearned run over the final three innings.
 
Junior Pat Rhoads had four hits, Kacergis added three hits and two runs, Lafferty finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored, freshman Nick White was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Lancashire came off the bench to go 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Scheider and Epsaro each had two hits as part of a 20-hit attack for DeSales.
 
The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they host Neumann University for a non-conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
