Softball Drops Both Ends of Doubleheader at King’s

Wilkes-Barre, PA (March 24, 2016) – The DeSales University softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon falling at King's College, 10-2 and 15-3, in MAC Freedom action.
 
Game One (L/2-10)
The Bulldogs (2-9, 0-4 MAC Freedom) played very well early opening up a 2-0 lead thru four and a half innings scoring once in the third on back-to-back doubles from freshman Madeleine Nasir and junior Alexa Beaumont and once more in the fifth on an RBI foul out from Beaumont scoring freshman Leann Panconi.
 
Sophomore Haley Warner had held the Monarchs (9-9, 2-2 MAC Freedom) down early pitching 1-2-3 innings in the second, third, and fourth before King's got to her for five runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to earn the win.
 
Nasir and Beaumont both finished with two hits as part of an eight hit attack in the loss and Warner suffered the loss in the circle allowing nine runs over five innings, striking out nine.
 
Game Two (L/3-15)
King's controlled game two from the start scoring twice in the first and second innings and seven more times in the third to open up an 11-3 lead.  DSU scored once in the second on an RBI double from sophomore Brittany Hunter and twice in the third on an RBI ground out from freshman Adrianna Barone scoring junior Shannon McCann who had tripled and an RBI walk from sophomore Andrea Artesani.
 
Artesani suffered the loss allowing seven earned runs over 2 2/3 innings pitched.
 
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they host SUNY-Cortland in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at Noon.
