Softball Battles but Drops Two to Montclair State

Center Valley, PA (March 29, 2016) – The DeSales University softball battled back from a seven-run deficit in game one and led late in game two before dropping both ends of a non-conference doubleheader with Montclair State University on Tuesday afternoon by scores of 16-7 and 8-3.
 
Game One (L/7-16)
The Red Hawks (14-4) dominated the start of the game scoring twice in the first and third innings and three more times in the fourth to open up a 7-0 lead.
 
DeSales (2-13) got one run back in the fourth on an RBI single from freshman Chandler Gottshall and exploded for six runs in the fifth to tie the score at seven thru five innings.
 
In the fifth junior Alexa Beaumont had an RBI triple, freshman Madeleine Nasir had a sacrifice fly, Gottshall had another RBI single, freshman Adrianna Barone had an RBI single and freshman Sunny Greenberg had the big blow a two-RBI triple.
 
Montclair State had the answer however scoring nine times in the top of the sixth inning to take a 16-7 lead before the Bulldogs left two runners on base in the sixth.
 
Sophomore Haley Frati and Gottshall each had two hits as part of an 11-hit attack for DeSales.  Sophomore Andrea Artesani took the loss allowing five earned runs over 4 2/3 innings pitched, striking out four.
 
Game Two (L/3-8)
The Bulldogs scored solo runs in the first and second innings on RBI singles from Greenberg and Beaumont and sophomore Hailey Warner held the Red Hawks at bay thru four innings as the Bulldogs held a 2-1 lead thru four.
 
MSU took the lead in the fifth scoring twice and took control in the sixth scoring four unearned runs to take a 7-2 lead before both teams exchanged runs in the seventh inning.
 
Greenberg was the lone Bulldog with two hits as part of an eight hit attack.  Warner took the loss despite pitching well allowing just three earned runs over 5 2/3 innings, striking out four.
 
The Bulldogs are right back in action tomorrow when they host Elizabethtown College in another non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
