Center Valley, PA (March 30, 2016) – Junior
Alexa Beaumont homered twice and knocked in six runs as the DeSales University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Elizabethtown College winning game one, 7-2, before dropping game two, 17-7, on Wednesday afternoon.
Game One (W/7-2)ETown (9-13) took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first but the Bulldogs (3-14) scored twice in the third inning to take control on a two-RBI double from freshman
Chandler Gottshall.
DSU added a solo run in the fourth on an RBI groundout from Beaumont and freshman
Madeleine Nasir gave DeSales a 4-2 lead with a solo home run in the fifth. Beaumont then put the exclamation point on the game one win with a two-run home run as part of a three-run sixth inning for the Bulldogs.
Sophomore
Hailey Warner earned her first collegiate win pitching a strong seven innings allowing just six hits and two runs, while striking out six.
Beaumont finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs and Gottshall went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Nasir was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Game Two (L/7-17)DSU led 4-1 after two innings after a leadoff home run from Beaumont that moved her into fourth place all-time with 14 career dingers and a three-run second inning led by a two-run double from Beaumont and an RBI ground out from Nasir.
ETown took a 5-4 lead in the top of the third inning with four runs before DeSales tied it at five in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single from sophomore
Andrea Artesani.
The Blue Jays then broke the game open with four runs in the fourth and eight more in the fifth to take a 17-5 lead before the Bulldogs plated two runs in the fifth on a two-run home run from senior
Samantha Gibson.
Artesani took the loss allowing eight earned over four innings pitched. Beaumont finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Gottshall had two more hits, Gibson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, sophomore
Brittany Hunter had two hits and scored once, and Artesani added two hits in the loss.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they host Wilkes University in a MAC Freedom doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
