Tyler Sweeney went 4-for-4 with two runs scored leading the DeSales University baseball team past Montclair State University, 6-4, in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.
After MSU (8-9) took a 1-0 lead in the third DSU (7-8) countered with a solo run in the bottom of the inning on a double steal from Sweeney and freshman
Tommy Epsaro.
The Redhawks took a 3-1 lead in the fifth but the Bulldogs again had the counter with three runs in the bottom of the fifth on three consecutive RBI singles from junior
Pat Rhoads, junior
Tommy DePaul, and junior
Mike Kacergis to take a 4-3 lead.
DeSales added two insurance runs in the eighth on an RBI triple from junior
Danny Licamara and an RBI double from Sweeney and senior
Evan Fraser earned his first save of the season pitching around a solo home run in the ninth to preserve the win.
Senior
Steven Wallace earned the win pitching seven strong innings allowing five hits and two earned runs, striking out five for his fourth win of the year.
The Bulldogs are right back to the diamond tomorrow when they travel to Ursinus College for another non-conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
