Late Comeback Lifts Baseball past Ursinus, 9-7

Collegeville, PA (March 31, 2016) – The DeSales University baseball team scored twice in the seventh inning and five more times in the eighth inning completing a 9-7 comeback win at Ursinus College in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon.
 
The Bulldogs (8-8) took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI groundout from junior Tommy DePaul and junior Tyler Sweeney scoring when DePaul got caught in a rundown between first and second.
 
The Bears (14-7) wasted no time taking the lead answering with three runs in the bottom of the third and took a 7-2 lead with four more tallies in the bottom of the sixth inning.
 
DeSales began its comeback in the top of the seventh when DePaul knocked in one run with an RBI single and the other scored on a double play.
 
The comeback was complete in the top of the eighth inning as senior Alec Hardy, freshman Preston Amato, Sweeney, and freshman Jimmy Johnstone each had RBIs as part of a five-run inning giving DSU a 9-7 lead.
 
Senior Evan Fraser earned his second save of the season allowing just one base-runner in the ninth and junior Tyler Cooperman earned his third win in relief pitching two scoreless innings.
 
Sweeney went 4-for-4 for the second straight game and scored three times, while freshman Tommy Epsaro, junior Jesse Smoot, and Hardy each had two hits.
 
The Bulldogs are scheduled to return to action tomorrow when they host Wilkes University in a MAC Freedom game set for 3:30 pm.
