Baseball Wins Third Straight, 13-9, over Wilkes in Series Opener

Center Valley, PA (April 1, 2016) – Senior Carrington Santana had a team-high three hits as part of an 18-hit attack leading the DeSales University baseball team to its third straight win, 13-9, over Wilkes University in the first of three games this weekend on Friday afternoon at Butz Field.
 
After Wilkes (12-9, 3-4 MAC Freedom) took a 2-0 lead with solo runs in the first and second innings, DeSales (9-8, 3-2 MAC Freedom) answered with four runs in the second inning to take a 4-2 lead.  Junior Danny Licamara had a two-run single, junior Tommy DePaul knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly, and freshman Jimmy Johnstone also had an RBI single in the inning.
 
DSU added three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings that including an RBI single from Johnstone, an RBI triple and single from sophomore Conner Lafferty, an RBI single from senior Alec Hardy, a two-RBI double from DePaul as the Bulldogs led 10-4 after five innings.
 
The Colonels refused to go away battling back to get within 10-8 with one run in the sixth and three more in the eighth before DeSales put the exclamation point on the win with three runs of its own in the bottom of the eighth inning on RBI singles from Santana, DePaul, and sophomore Hunter Hart.
 
Santana finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while DePaul, Johnstone, Lafferty, Hardy, and Licamara all had two hits.  DePaul added four RBIs and junior Tyler Sweeney scored three times in the win.
 
Freshman Felix Martinez Jr. earns his first career win going five innings scattering 11 hits and allowing four runs.  Junior Tyler Cooperman earns his third save of the year going 1 1/3 in relief allowing one run.
 
The Bulldogs travel to the Colonels tomorrow for two with first pitch in game one set for 1:00 pm.
