Andrea Artesani pitched eight strong innings allowing just one unearned run leading the DeSales University softball team past Centenary College, 2-1, in the season opener in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Sunday.
The game was scoreless heading into the eighth inning when the international tiebreaker was implemented. After the Cyclones (0-3) scored once in the top of the eighth inning, sophomore
Haley Frati plated two runs with a single to right field giving the Bulldogs the one run win.
Artesani allowed just five hits over eight innings walking one and striking out nine for her first win of the year. Frati and freshman
Leann Panconi had DSU's only two hits on the afternoon.
The win was head coach
Rachel Turoscy's 300th career win, 283 of which have come with coaching at DeSales.
The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow when they face Centenary College and Randolph College back in Puerto Rico.
