Bethlehem, PA (April 12, 2016) – Sophomore
Andrea Artesani tossed a one-hitter in game two but the DeSales University softball was swept in a non-conference doubleheader, 8-0 and 1-0, at local rival Moravian College on Tuesday afternoon
Game One (L/0-8)
DSU (3-18) had just one hit and committed seven errors in game one as Moravian (21-3) scored seven unearned runs in the win. The Greyhounds got on the board in the second inning with a solo run and took a 6-0 lead with five tallies in the third inning before posting the final two runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Freshman
Madeleine Nasir had DSU's lone hit, a single in the first inning. Fellow freshman
Leann Panconi took the loss in the circle allowing eight hits and one earned run over 5 1/3 innings pitched.
Game Two (L/0-1)
Moravian scored the lone run of the game in the first inning on a hit by pitch, a sacrifice bunt, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly. The Greyhounds had a lead-off double to start the second inning that Artesani stranded at third base and MC never threatened the rest of the way as Artesani was masterful allowing just one hit and three base-runners.
Offensively DSU had just as much trouble against Moravian's
Amanda Carisone totaling just two hits as just one Bulldog reached second base in the game. Senior
Samantha Gibson and senior
Amanda Setzer had the two hits in the loss for the Bulldogs.
Artesani finished striking out three and walking none to suffer the hard luck loss.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Thursday when they host Wilkes University in a MAC Freedom doubleheader beginning at 3:30 pm.
