Softball Splits MAC Freedom DH with Wilkes

Center Valley, PA (April 14, 2016) – The DeSales University softball team scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in game one to earn a 6-5 win before dropping game two, 15-3, splitting a MAC Freedom doubleheader with Wilkes University on Thursday afternoon.

Game One (W/6-5)
Wilkes (7-13, 2-4 MAC Freedom) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of game one before DSU (4-19, 1-7 MAC Freedom) plated two runs in the bottom of the frame on an RBI double from freshman Madeleine Nasir and an RBI single from freshman Chandler Gottshall.

The two teams exchanged runs in the fifth inning and DeSales took a 4-2 lead in the sixth on an RBI triple off the glove of the Wilkes centerfielder in the right-centerfield gap by freshman Adrianna Barone.

The Colonels rallied in the top of the seventh inning scoring three runs to take a 5-4 lead but DeSales had the answer as sophomore Haley Frati doubled home pinch-runner sophomore Andrea Artesani and junior Katie Bearn came thru with a pinch-hit RBI single plating the winning run.

Gottshall finished with three hits in the win and freshman Carly Benjamin was 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the win.  Artesani earned the win in the circle allowing four earned runs over seven innings, striking out one.

Game Two (L/3-15)
Wilkes scored four times in the second inning and 10 times in the third inning to take a 14-0 lead and never looked back from there.  The Bulldogs did plate three runs in the fourth inning on an RBI double from senior Samantha Gibson and an RBI single from senior Amanda Setzer.

Freshman Leann Panconi took the loss in the circle allowing seven runs over 2 1/3 innings pitched.  Gibson, Gottshall, and Setzer had DSU's three hits in the loss.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they travel to FDU-Florham for a MAC Freedom doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
