Adam Donovan pitched 6 1/3 strong innings leading the DeSales University baseball team past FDU-Florham, 6-2, in the first of three games between the two teams this weekend on Friday afternoon in MAC Freedom action.
Donovan pitched out of several jams stranding six guys thru his 6 1/3 innings allowing just four hits and one earned run, while striking out four to earn his first win of the season. Junior
Tyler Cooperman continued his terrific season out of the bullpen tossing 1 2/3 scoreless innings striking out two and senior
Evan Fraser pitched a scoreless ninth in the win.
DSU (16-10, 8-3 MAC Freedom) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning taking advantage of two walks as junior
Jesse Smoot knocked in two runs with a single and the Bulldogs plated another on an RBI fielder's choice from senior
Alec Hardy.
The Devils (8-15-1, 2-9 MAC Freedom) got runs back in the fifth and seventh to pull within 3-2 before the Bulldogs added one more in the eighth on two FDU errors and two more in the ninth on a solo home run from freshman
Tommy Epsaro and an RBI single from senior
Chris Rubin to post the final tally.
DSU had just four hits on the afternoon.
The series continues tomorrow as these two teams will play two at Butz Field beginning at 1:00 pm.
