Scranton, PA (April 20, 2016) – Sophomore
Conner Lafferty and freshman
Tommy Epsaro each had three hits and five RBIs leading the DeSales University baseball team past The University of Scranton, 18-10, in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (19-12) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two RBI triple from senior
Jay Maletz but the Royals (15-16) answered with six runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-2 lead. Both teams exchanged runs in the second inning as Scranton held a 7-3 lead entering the fourth inning.
DSU took control in the fourth inning scoring six times to take a 9-7 lead. Sophomore
Hunter Hart had an RBI single to make it 7-4 and Lafferty tied the game at seven with a three-run home run. Junior
Danny Licamara added an RBI single in the inning.
The Bulldogs tacked on three more runs in the sixth inning to take a 12-7 lead after a sacrifice fly from senior
Colby Kulig and a two-RBI single from Epsaro and put the game out of reach with five runs in the seventh inning that included RBI hits from Lafferty, senior
Alec Hardy, and a three-RBI double from Epsaro.
Senior
Chris Polaski earned the win pitching five strong innings of relief allowing just one run and five hits, striking out four.
Lafferty finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBIs, Epsaro was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBIs, Hart had two hits and two runs scored, Hardy came off the bench with two hits and two RBIs, and Maletz had two hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs.
Junior
Mike Kacergis scored three times and senior
Carrington Santana crossed home plate twice in the win.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Friday when they host Eastern University in a MAC Freedom game beginning at 3:30 pm.
