DePaul Breaks Stolen Base Record in 7-4 Win over Eastern

Center Valley, PA (April 22, 2016) – Junior Tommy DePaul went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base breaking the all-time for stolen bases in a career leading the DeSales University baseball team past Eastern University, 7-4, in MAC Freedom action on Friday afternoon.

DePaul stole third base in the bottom of the fifth inning giving him 78 career stolen bases, one more than Andrew Heard, who had held the all-time mark with 77.

The win give DeSales (20-12, 11-5 MAC Freedom) its 20th win of the season marking the 17th straight season and the 22nd season in the last 23 years head coach Tim Neiman has won 20+ games in a year.

DSU took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when freshman Tommy Epsaro hit a towering three-run home run to left-center field playing junior Danny Licamara and senior Chris Rubin who had both singled.

The Bulldogs added two more runs in the third on an RBI triple from senior Alec Hardy and a sacrifice fly from junior Mike Kacergis after a leadoff double from DePaul.

Eastern got three runs back in the fourth inning but solo runs in the fifth and sixth on an RBI double from Hardy and RBI single from sophomore Hunter Hart pushed the lead back to three runs (7-4) and the bullpen did the rest.

Senior Chris Zampini improved to 4-0 on the year going five innings allowing six hits and three runs, striking out three.  Freshman Austin Kroeger pitched two solid innings of relief and junior Tyler Cooperman earned his fifth save of the year tossing two scoreless innings allowing just one base-runner.

Hart finished the game with three hits, Epsaro was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs, and both DePaul and Hardy had two hits to lead a 12-hit attack for the Bulldogs.

DSU is back in action tomorrow when they travel to Eastern University for games two and three of the weekend set in MAC Freedom action.  The Bulldogs need just one win on tomorrow's MAC Freedom doubleheader to clinch a spot in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament.
