Center Valley, PA (April 21, 2016) – The DeSales University softball suffered a sweep on Thursday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader falling to William Paterson University, 6-2 in game one and 15-4 in game two.
Game One (L/2-6)
After falling behind 2-0 in the top of third inning DSU (5-24) tied the game at two on a two-run home run from junior
Alexa Beaumont, her third of the season and the 15
th of her career.
WPU (26-6) reclaimed the lead in the top of the fourth inning on a solo home run and tallied three insurance runs in the top of the seventh to provide the final tally.
Sophomore
Andrea Artesani took the loss allowing five earned runs over seven innings, striking out two.
Game Two (L/4-15)
Paterson scored four times in the first, three times in the fourth, and once in the sixth to open up an 8-0 lead before DeSales rallied with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the margin down to four runs.
Artesani had a two-run single, senior
Elisa Andrew had a sacrifice fly, and freshman
Sunny Greenberg knocked in a run in the inning. The Pioneers had the answer however scoring seven times in the top of the seventh inning to put the game out of reach.
Freshman
Adrianna Barone led a five-hit attack with two hits. Freshman
Leann Panconi suffered the loss in the circle lasting 3 1/3 innings allowing seven runs and striking out two.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they host Eastern University in a MAC Freedom doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
