Softball Splits Final Home Doubleheader with Eastern

Center Valley, PA (April 23, 2016) – The DeSales University softball team split its final home doubleheader of the season dropping game one, 11-5, before taking game two, 6-2, over Eastern University in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon.

Game One (L/5-11)
In the opener both teams exchanged solo home runs in the first inning before the Eagles (11-23, 4-8 MAC Freedom) scored twice on a two-run homer in the third inning to take the early 3-1 lead.

The advantage moved to 5-1 in the fifth when EU plated two unearned runs before DSU (6-25, 2-10 MAC Freedom) scored twice in the sixth inning to pull within two runs.  Junior Katie Bearn had an RBI double and freshman Sunny Greenberg knocked in the second run on a fielder's choice.

Eastern put game one away in the top of the seventh scoring six times to take an 11-3 lead before the Bulldogs plated two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Sophomore Andrea Artesani suffered the loss allowing eight earned runs over 6 1/3 innings pitched.  DSU had 12 hits offensively including a 3-for-3 effort from Bearn, a 3-for-4 day for sophomore Haley Frati and two hits each from freshman Leann Panconi and freshman Madeleine Nasir.

Game Two (W/6-2)
Once again the two teams exchanged runs in the first inning as Beaumont hit a solo home run for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the first inning.

DSU took a 3-1 lead in the third when Frati and Bearn each had RBI singles and after Eastern pulled to within 3-2 in the fifth, Nasir put the exclamation point on the game two win with a three-run home run to dead centerfield in the sixth to post the final tally.

Sophomore Hailey Warner earned the win in the circle pitching seven strong innings scattering 10 hits and allowing just two runs.

Senior Samantha Gibson had three hits in the final home games of her career, while Frati, Bearn, and Panconi each had two hits in the 12-hit attack.

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow when they travel to Kean University for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
