Men’s Lacrosse Rolls Past Wilkes; Clinches Playoff Berth

Center Valley, PA (April 23, 2016) – The DeSales University men's lacrosse team won its fifth straight game, rolling past Wilkes University, 17-6, to clinch a MAC Freedom postseason tournament berth on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (5-7, 5-0 MAC Freedom) tie the team record for consecutive wins with five and clinch the program's fourth berth in the MAC Freedom Conference Tournament as DSU is guaranteed to finish no lower than the second seed and will host at least one home playoff game in two weeks.

After Wilkes (0-13, 0-5 MAC Freedom) scored the first two goals of the game, the Bulldogs settled in scoring five straight goals to take a 5-2 lead.  WU scored with 23 seconds left in the first quarter to trail by two but DeSales put the game away in the second and third quarters scoring 10 straight goals to take a 15-3 lead and never looked back from there.

Sophomore Josh Harman (4g, 1a), senior Ryan Loughlin (2g, 3a), and sophomore Joe Neggia (2g, 3a) each had five points in the win.  Junior Tyler Newman finished with four assists and freshman Tommy Friedman added three goals and an assist for the Bulldogs.  Junior Justin Wilson and sophomore Bryan Weber rounded out the scoring leaders scoring three goals each.

Weber also did a terrific job on face-offs winning 13-of-19 and picking up a team-high nine ground balls.  Freshman Nick Altland also played well picking up seven ground balls and senior Tim Barry had a team-high three caused turnovers.

Senior Matt Warnken had another solid game in between the pipes making four saves and allowing just four goals in just over 48 minutes of action.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday when they host Manhattanville College in another MAC Freedom game beginning at 7:00 pm.
